When deciding what tone of teal to use be sure to think about lighting explains Annie Sloan. 'For furniture, teal velvet works well and adds a sumptuous texture to your living space.' Alternatively, for a more subtle approach, 'a beautiful teal vase or decorative objet can bring depth and interest to any surface,' she adds. If you love teal and a confident with color, 'go bold by painting an entire room or add a pop of it with a statement feature wall,' says Sam Hood, chief creative officer at luxury home store Amara. There are many ways to use teal in a living room, in fact, being a hugely versatile shade, it can be used in most rooms. When thinking about colors to pair with teal Tobie Lewis, Senior Brand Manager at Valspar Paint suggests using it 'with a cleansing white to maximize natural light in a room, or in contrast with an earthy mustard yellow or burnt orange to add more depth to your color palette.' How do you use teal in a living room? 'Deep colors are now so fashionable on walls again and they do make an amazing back drop to the reds, pinks and saffron we love using.' It works wonderfully well as a back ground to these vibrant colors so great for walls as well,' explains Susie Watson, founder of Susie Watson Designs. 'I love it using teal in designs with reds, charcoals and saffron especially. With orange sitting opposite blue on the color wheel, and green sitting opposite pink, as a mixture of the two, teal is a natural partner to both shades but also looks fabulous with other warm tones like yellow and red. Sitting between green and blue, it is a versatile shade which fits easily with many color schemes. Teal goes well with a host of other colors. ![]() ![]() 'In kitchens we often see tones of blue or green being used to draw the eye to the center island, however more recently we have seen a trend for more vibrant hues coming through such as shades of teal or verdigris,' says Helen Shaw, UK director at Benjamin Moore. According to the experts, teal has become an increasingly popular as a kitchen color idea, providing a fresh take on the classic blue kitchen. Kitchens are spaces in which we spend lots of time, so it makes sense that they feel happy and uplifting and teal is a brilliant way to achieve this. Guests can cozy up with the quilted cream bedding and grey sweater blanket. Alternatively, for a more pared-back approach to decorating, teal can make a fabulous accent color for bringing extra depth to neutral schemes and for livening up restful spaces such as bedrooms. I got my new guest bedroom bedding yesterday and put it on my bed just to take a look at it (guest bed mattress and frame have not arrived yet.'A color that is beautiful, bold and sits so well with almost all other colors, using teal in interiors is always a great idea as it can be so dynamic,' says Emma Deterding, founder and creative director, Kelling Designs. I repeat, this is super old bedding and I have not replaced it yet because I am focusing on other areas of the house first in terms of decor. I say go for it!! Color is such a fun and easy statement and I love how you can be bold with it. I have gold lamps which look great against the teal and the white juju hat also provides nice contrast. I won't be inviting professional designers into my bedroom to nitpick how the undertones of my bedding and walls match lol. I still haven't picked my new bedding but I'm sure it will all look fine when I do. I did not follow the advice of these professionals in this chain who told me I should get my decor first before picking a color. Association Hi, yes I did! I LOVE my teal wall! How to set up Facebook Messenger for business If you have to choose between a company with support and another without, which would you pick? Which one would you return to? Since the majority of people prefer to message businesses rather than call or email, this is an important way to build trust and confidence. Imagine you’re about to make a big purchase. Just knowing messaging is available is enough for some customers. In a poll by Facebook, the majority of people who message businesses say that the option helps them feel more confident about a brand. This is depicted by an arrow from a filled-in circle to the lifeline. This is represented by an arrow that starts and finishes at the same lifeline for the object.įound message – a message sent from an unknown source outside the sequence diagram. Reflexive message (self-message) – the caller sends a message to itself. This is shown by an arrow line marked “destroy” and ending with a crossed-out “X” at the end. If a call message requires the destruction of an existing object, a delete message can be used in the sequence diagram. Participant destruction message (delete message) – this is the opposite of the create message notation. For example, when a user sends an online banking payment, this creates a new object in the system. A create message is indicated by the word “create” over the arrow line and ends with a rectangle representing the newly created object. Participant creation message (create message) – sending a message can result in the creation of a new object in the sequence diagram. This can be skipped in a sequence diagram, as a synchronous message already contains a return message. Return message (reply message) – represented by a dashed line with an open arrowhead – the message is sent back by the receiver to the sender. This is the opposite of a synchronous message, in that the sender (message caller) does not wait for the receiver to process the message and continues its interaction immediately. In our email example, this means that the user creates an account, a request for verification is sent to the email server, and then the user needs to wait for a verification email before logging in.Īsynchronous message – represented by an open arrowhead. The message is first sent to the receiver, gets processed, feedback is returned to the sender, and only then can the sender continue and send another message. Synchronous message – represented by an arrow with a solid arrowhead. There are several different types of messages: The arrow indicates which object is the sender or receiver of the message. Message can be sent from left to right and vice versa. These messages are represented by horizontal arrows in sequential order. Message – the interaction between the objects (actors) in a sequence diagram happens by means of the sending of messages. It is represented by a long thin rectangular box on the lifeline. In our email example, a lifeline could show the creation of a username and password, and logging after email verification.Īctivation Bar – this shows the time needed for an actor to process the task and during which the object remains active. Lifeline – this is a vertical parallel dashed line showing the object's existence in time. Note that a sequence diagram can have multiple actors. In our email example, this would be a user registering an email address. ![]() Objects, or actors, represent various roles, such as users or external systems. ![]() So let’s take a closer look at the notations used to draw a sequence diagram.Īctor (object) – this is at the top of the sequence diagram and represents an object interacting with the system. ![]() A sequence diagram descends from top to bottom showing a sequence of interactions and consists of a number of sequence diagram notations. In order to understand what a sequence diagram depicts, we need to become familiar with its components and structure. The diagram would show the sequence of interactions between the user and the email domain over time. A simple example of a real-world interaction that could be represented by a sequence diagram would be a user subscribing to an email service. Sequence diagrams can also be called event diagrams or event scenarios. A sequence diagram helps create an overview of how a system works and how all the different parts interact with each other over time, carry out the required actions, and how processes are completed. Both developers and users depend on these because they are a very straightforward way of modeling interactions between objects in a time sequence. One type of UML diagram is a sequence diagram. What is a sequence diagram in UML and what is its purpose? UML originates from the mid-1990s and has been evolving and changing ever since. It was created to help software engineers and system designers better understand each other’s needs when cooperating on developing complex systems. UML is not a programming language, but a visual diagramming language that uses standardized models and diagrams to represent the design of the system. Developers often use the Unified Modelling Language (UML) when designing software. ![]() Please contact us if you have any questions about a comment or the Guidelines. “Euphoria” (there are only so many synonyms for “bliss”) inexplicably defiles Giorgio Moroder’s gorgeous loop from Donna Summer’s eternal disco hit “I Feel Love” right before it reiterates the pre-chorus to “Time Is Running Out” and then, inexplicably, launches into an early 2000s California pop-punk refrain that’s comically at odds with Bellamy’s unflappable vocal gravitas. On “Verona,” where Bellamy at least remembers that songs sound better when they have a vocal melody, a trebly loop from the Edge’s discard pile jangles at half speed. “Won’t Stand Down” spits up the subwoofer wubs of Imagine Dragons’ cultural pollutant “Radioactive” and AWOLNATION’s actually pretty decent single “Sail” and Muse’s own “Supermassive Black Hole,” too. “You Make Me Feel Like It’s Halloween” hits its seasonal nail squarely on the head with a mockery of Vincent Price’s “Thriller” epilogue. Muse pilfer from themselves and everyone else, cramming their horde into a tightly produced display case. Through the grief and anger of a fresh split, the band doubles down on the album’s arbitrary collage of musical styles each song is a mosaic of references so far-flung and so thinly considered that Will of the People starts to feel like that scene in the new Space Jam where every character from every property is somehow there on the screen, cheering for basketball-a pop cultural slurry whipped up into a dizzying whirlpool. In theory, it’s meaty enough subject matter, but a rock opera it does not make. From the lachrymose piano ballad “Ghosts (How Can I Move On)” (which at least gives us a glimpse into a parallel universe where Coldplay has a technically proficient singer) to the flimsy, pseudo-thrash embarrassments “Kill or Be Killed” and “Won’t Stand Down,” Muse drift into songs that sound, vaguely, about a relationship in tatters. By the time we arrive at the Queen homage “Liberation,” another song written from the perspective of the People and their Will, we almost have a story.Īnd then the concept deflates. ![]() Here, Muse lapse back into the neon hues of 2018’s retrofuturist outing Simulation Theory, setting palm-muted chords against snaking funk bass lines, shearing synth leads, and vocoder huffs copied and pasted from the Weeknd’s “Starboy.” So far, so good: Protagonist and antagonist square off atop a few mismatched, Xeroxed set pieces. ![]() On lead single “Compliance,” Bellamy switches roles from oppressed to oppressor, sounding out the words that might be uttered by a narcotic omnipotence, a cult of power that promises to blunt all suffering for the price of mindless obedience. The title track calls for a populist revolution: Crowd vocals ring out against AC/DC guitar chords and a Gary Glitter stomp-whap, both compressed within an inch of their life, as Bellamy snarls at the big bad that he and his army are about to take down. Will of the People starts out strongly in narrative mode. In Nadella’s own meetings with publishers, he said that he now hears that Google “wants … to write this check and we want you to match it.” (Google didn’t immediately respond to questions about those deals.) In addition to training its models on search queries, Google has also been moving to secure agreements with content publishers to ensure that it has exclusive access to their material for AI training purposes, according the Microsoft CEO. Under questioning by a Google attorney, Nadella admitted that in some cases, defaults are not the sole determinant of success: Google was able to overcome Microsoft’s own Internet Explorer defaults on Windows PCs to become the market-leading desktop web browser.īut Nadella attributed Google’s success to the relative openness of the Windows platform, arguing that on more tightly controlled mobile operating systems, and in search, default status plays a much larger role than in competition for desktop web browsers. “What is concerning is, it reminds me of what happened with distribution deals ,” he testified. Now, Nadella has said that the same data advantage could create “even more of a nightmare” as large language models compete on the basis of the data they are trained on. Nadella previously led Microsoft’s cloud computing business and before that had spent several years overseeing the engineering team responsible for search and advertising at the company, making him well-versed in Bing’s various challenges. “Every misspelling of a new movie, every local restaurant whose name you mistype,” Nadella explained, “…is a very critical asset to have your search quality get better.” And because the physical world is constantly changing, capturing shifts in search trends are essential to helping a search engine stay relevant as historical data becomes less relevant. And for years, that “dynamic data” has enabled Google to stay ahead of Bing, he added. “This is going to become even harder to compete in the AI age with someone who has that core… advantage,” Nadella testified.ĭespite being profitable, and despite investing some $100 billion in it over the past 20 years, Microsoft’s Bing search engine has only a single-digit market share in mobile search, and only slightly more - into the teens - in desktop search, Nadella said, adding that one of his dreams has been to see Bing account for at least 20% of the market in both segments.īing has struggled to grow its market share in part because being the default search provider for billions of devices means Google receives enormous amounts of data through search queries that helps Google understand at scale what users are likely to be interested in, Nadella noted. However, even more worrisome, Nadella argued, is that the enormous amount of search data that is provided to Google through its default agreements can help Google train its AI models to be better than anyone else’s - threatening to give Google an unassailable advantage in generative AI that would further entrench its power. (A senior Apple executive, Eddy Cue, testified last week that Apple has always considered Google the best search product for its users, a claim echoed by Google itself throughout the trial.) Nadella added that Microsoft has been willing to spend close to $15 billion a year for the privilege. Nadella testified that every year he has been Microsoft’s CEO, he has unsuccessfully sought to persuade Apple to switch away from Google as its default search partner. “You get up in the morning, you brush your teeth, you search on Google,” Nadella said. (Google didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.)Ĭentral to Google’s strategy has been its agreements with companies such as Apple that have made Google the default search engine for millions of internet users. His testimony reflected the frustrations of a long-running rivalry between Microsoft and Google whose tensions have permeated the weeks-long trial. ![]() Taking the stand in a charcoal suit and tie, Nadella painted Google as a technology giant that has blocked off ways for consumers to access rival search engines. ![]() He is the most senior tech executive yet to testify during the trial that focuses on the power of Google as the default search engine on mobile devices and browsers around the globe. Nadella testified on Monday as part of the US government’s sweeping antitrust trial against Google, now into its 14th day. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella warned on Monday of a “nightmare” scenario for the internet if Google’s dominance in online search is allowed to continue, a situation, he said, that starts with searches on desktop and mobile but extends to the emerging battleground of artificial intelligence. Deleting one backup will render useless all the subsequent backups on the same chain. However, duplicity's biggest flaw lies in its incremental model - a chain of dependent backups starts with a full backup followed by a number of incremental ones, and ends when another full backup is uploaded. It is the only existing backup tool with extensive cloud support - the long list of storage backends covers almost every cloud provider one can think of. While the performance wasn't the top-priority design goal, Duplicacy has been shown to outperform other backup tools by a considerable margin, as indicated by the following results obtained from a benchmarking experiment backing up the Linux code base using Duplicacy and 3 other open-source backup tools.ĭuplicacy currently provides the following storage backends: The avoidance of a centralized chunk database not only produces a simpler and less error-prone implementation, but also makes it easier to develop advanced features, such as Asymmetric Encryption for stronger encryption and Erasure Coding for resilient data protection.ĭuplicacy is fast. ![]() Unlike other chunk-based backup tools where chunks are grouped into pack files and a chunk database is used to track which chunks are stored inside each pack file, Duplicacy takes a database-less approach where every chunk is saved independently using its hash as the file name to facilitate quick lookups. This feature turns any cloud storage server supporting only a basic set of file operations into a sophisticated deduplication-aware server. There are 3 core advantages of Duplicacy over any other open-source or commercial backup tools:ĭuplicacy is the only cloud backup tool that allows multiple computers to back up to the same cloud storage, taking advantage of cross-computer deduplication whenever possible, without direct communication among them. There is a special edition of Duplicacy developed for VMware vSphere (ESXi) named Vertical Backup that can back up virtual machine files on ESXi to local drives, network or cloud storages. There is also a Web GUI frontend built for Windows, macOS, and Linux, available from. This repository hosts source code, design documents, and binary releases of the command line version of Duplicacy. The final draft version is available here for those who don't have IEEE subscriptions. STORJ comes to mind - they provide unprecedented throughput and georedundancy is built in into the design. ![]() If it turns out it’s too large, and performance is important - I would suggest consider other providers. ![]() ![]() The difference in performance between the two will show how much latency is contributing. Then try downloading a huge multiGB file, to see the throughput. I would suggest trying to download data with another tool, such as Cyberduck or Transmit and see what performance do you get with duplicacy data. If you are far from Backblaze datacenter - this may matter. Restore speed is also effectively limited by the latency: since duplicacy creates a lot of small files, the time to first byte can contribute to the overall performance in a significant way. Are you setting number of threads for restore? The downstream - Backblaze expects you to use multiple threads, and each thread is limited to 10mbps, IIRC. |
